Hasegawa A3D-1 Skywarrior
The Douglas A3D Skywarrior was designed as a three-man, all jet-powered, aircraft carrier-based, nuclear bomber. Designed in the early 1950s, the first prototype flew in October, 1952. Over a long service life, Skywarriors were modified to perform electronic surveillance, in-flight refuelling and reconnaissance duties. The last Skywarrior was retired in 1991, almost 40 years after its intial deployment.
This kit of an A3D-1 Skywarrior was a pleasure to build, due to Hasegawa's well deserved reputation for high quality plastic kits. It was assembled nearly out-of-the-box, although I did invest in replacing Hasegawa's resin nose and tail pieces with better fitting resin parts from Quick-Boost.
All paint was Testors Model Master, with decals from AeroMaster and SuperScale. Final finish was a mix of Testors Clear Semi-Gloss and Clear Flat Lacquer.
